santa cruz shenanigans

joey's 20th birthday was dreamy. i am amazed at how much i love their life down there in santa cruz...mikie and joey have the best house and they walk everywhere in the balmy ocean air or ride skateboards or bikes.

we ate at taqueria vallarta our first night; we all met there: joey, mikie, kaitlyn, stan, niles, and bouey walked there and met addie and i. we were all famished and gorged on cups full of salsa drenching our nachos and veggie tacos and burritos. then we roamed around downtown awhile before going back to their house to celebrate, sing and eat cake and watch present-opening. he got vegan vans from mom, a 50$ gift certificate from dad and that book about the wilderness ranger who gets lost, a hoodie with a bird sewn on from addie, a tape recorder from stan (he opened that earlier) and the new dolorean cd from me. joey is 20! how strange and wonderful...

this girl who came over with their roommate alex, asked if we are quadruplets. addie and i were bursting with pride. yeah, we all just turned twenty yesterday.

anyway we had long crazy discussions out on the balcony and walked down to the beach and there was a full moon but it hid behind clouds "the moon was a ghostly gallion tossed upon cloudy seas..." sea lions barked uproariously in the background and seagulls swooped and we skirted the edge of the great pacific ocean.

the next morning we went downtown and i got joey a copy of black elk speaks from logos and we looked at records and searched for my papel picado flags for the wedding which i still haven't found!

later we all ate lunch at carpo's: salad bar bonanza. we took a really cute polaroid of all of us. kaitlyn and stan were honorary beattys.

in the evening the fog finally lifted so we walked down to the pier and looked at the roly poly sea lions who look just like abby and lift their big beautiful eyes up to look at us lazily.

it was such a fun couple of days in santa cruz that on the way home at night i was already haunted by it.

Sounds like you guys had so much fun. I'm so happy you all could be together. Wish I could have been there too! Love you all, Mom

I have some prayer flags for you. Someone left them at my sisters campsite. I also left them there because they looked so cute and colorful hanging there between the trees. These flags are bigger and longer then the ones you already have in your kitchen. My mom said she would bring them home. I need to call her and make sure she also didn't forget them.
