another birthday surprise: em took joey down to folsom to get him this new tattoo he's been talking about! he is very very happy with how it turned out. then zack and rebecca and sylvan met us back at home and we all hiked down to the river at Buck's Bar with Nick Savino too. Joey couldn't swim all the way cause of his new tattoo but we all got to relax and wade around and the water felt SO GOOD. and we got to see nude sunbathers.
then the PARTY! it was supposed to be a small and quiet affair, just closest friends and candles and acoustic guitar, a "no electricity" party. but that didn't really happen. as mikie explained, "joey's the most popular person in northern california..there's no way everyone wouldn't come!" it turned into kind of a rager.
the nice thing was, rebecca got straight into the kitchen and fixed a giant pot of spaghetti and tons of fresh garlic bread. and we had salad from farm fixings brought over by jan okumura, who signs her name as "farmer jan okie" --PERFECT!
here we are right after singing happy birthday.
mom made joey this adorable lemon cake and we had funfetti cake too.
her BABY!
mikie went out and actually TRIED to make it a candlelight party. the candles did burn for most of the night but that didn't really keep it any mellower!
joey got to be reunited with some old friends, for example maya sadie on the far right there, who ended up kind of the hit of the party for the many single boys!
and...MATT TRUDEAU...they had a great time together and kicked off what became a REAL DANCE PARTY! we danced for HOURS.
but first they had to do some of their famous joint-acrobatic moves:
mikie had QUITE the dance moves, reminding me of a certain little nephew of ours who does something very similar and is the star of the dancefloor always:
getting INTO it. it got really really hot and i had to shut the doors (and turn on the AC) for our poor neighbors' sake and the cops came anyway later when everyone was jumping in the pool, but they were quickly pacified with promises that everyone would go inside. that was a first for our household, kinda scary.
here i am trying to make joey drink some water, the responsible one for once? wow!
we had such a great time and my body is sore today from all that dancing! wish i got photos of dad dancing on here, he couldn't resist as he kept trying to leave he'd be swept back into the dancing madness and let me tell you, he's also quite the dancer. is this where the beatty boys get it?
here he is kicking back a cold one with artie, feeling REAL good (non-alc of course!)
zack and rebecca having a sexytime moment on the dancefloor, rare but so so sweet!
thank goodness for these two cutie pies who came up from santa cruz, were the stupendously cutest couple on the dance floor and also, my favorite, CLEANED UP THE NEXT MORNING! i love you two so much forever!
welp, fofe, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. you have heard it so many times and in so many delightful ways that now does it make you a little sick? remember, twenty two is a good age. you're gonna love it.

I cant get over that picture of Zack and Rebecca! I love catching those moments. That party was perfect! Even if we did originally want it to be small and mellow, everyone who showed up was so sweet and FUN! And Joey now has SEVERAL bottles of red wine...I guess people know what he likes a little too much! Also, Im glad Arty brought that non-alcoholic beer so pops could enjoy it with him! sooo cute! Amy is right, this party had everything!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SWEET LITTLE JOEY!!!!!!!!!! Oh, how I love him so.
My Baby is 22, I can't believe it! where did the years go, I told you not to grow up Joey, but you always said you had to and I knew it would happen! What a party and what an amazing family of wonderful, creative, crazy kids...How did we do it Danny? But I'm so glad we did. They are a wonder!!!
