Christmas Lists!

Hey everyone,

Dad suggested this, so I thought we should try it out. This year, obviously nobody wants to blow their wads on Christmas presents. Fortunately, we're Beatty-Springs. Which means, thinking up and creating exciting, practical and useable Christmas presents for eachother should be a piece of applesauce-pumpkin cake. Still, it's pretty difficult to think up good present ideas from scratch, so here's the deal:

Post a comment on this blog with your "Christmas List". Anything, big and small, fat or thin, goes. That way we all have some ideas for making/getting wonderful Beatty presents for eachother.
That said, let's splurge!
we all better put a list up on here, OK? GO!

i have already mentioned one or two of these things to one or two people. but just for mikie i will do this, with the supplemental note that i really don't need anything and i believe that love and being together are all that matter for christmas! and gifts for the children, just like baby jesus got gifts of frankencense and myrrh (however you spell those). and i also admit that i always go crazy and i do love buying things way too much, as much as i love to say "consume less, share more" and "live simply, that others may simply live." etc.

my list:

1. digital voice tape recorder thingie like addie's

2. the game "Imagine If" which i certifiably LOST last christmas day and have never seen again since. i promise i won't lose it this time and let's all play it okay!??

3. flannel nightgown

4. anything homemade

other than that there is nothing i really actually need. i am easy. you know i love books and i love having my family around and that's all i need because i'm a sappy dork.

cozy knee high socks, gum- i like gum. A baby sitter for one night would be cool. To make lots of fun memories. And nice snug driving gloves ( cute girly ones) it is freezing here.

Mikie, thanks for the great idea, everyone needs to add to this list so I know what they want! I already got my Christmas present and I LOVE it. Thanks everyone!! The camera is wonderful and adorable too. So nothing else for me, I mean it. Thank you Danny too for the camera. You're so sweet to instigate getting that gift for me. Love to all, Mom

Books! we all should just get eachother fantastical books about our nation's most fascinating/haunting piece of history, the pioneering to California! Seriously, I just spent about an hour and a half downtown loving some really cool gold rush/california books.

mikie i wasn't trying to be patronizing AT ALL...and i know lists are our tradition...it's just a personal thing. for myself, for my own life, i want to try to promote the idea of consuming less. but i also know it is very very nice to have an idea what people want or need. even if it wasn't for christmas, it's kind of nice just to know because it shows what people are into lately! so, i like it, and it goes along with our family's obsession with list making anyway.

Okay looks like I'm the last. Here's my list:

--a Polaroid camera
--little black knit mittens (Fio ate my old gloves)
--Neutral Milk Hotel: On Avery Island
--The Mountain Goats: Get Lonely
--a Bukowski book, I don't know Ham On Rye or Post Office or Women or something
--other books, here are some suggestions (so many penguin books!): Subculture by Dick Hebdige, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon (penguins classics deluxe edition), Walden by Thoreau, Paradise Lost by Milton (penguin classics edition), a pinhole photography guide, Finnegans Wake by James Joyce (penguin 20th-century classics)
--a decent harmonica (keyed in G I guess, Heather/Darin, any suggestions?)
--western edible and medicinal plants book (okay, when Amy first asked me what I wanted, I said I wanted this, so it's not just to follow the mikie and adie trend; I saw a really cool Rockies one at Grand Teton that I wanted)
--a Nick Drake cd

and for anyone considering/asking for/buying rechargeable batteries, Costco has the best kit for a good price. I have one, and if I buy one more I'll never have to buy disposable batteries again (at for a few years).
