Imagine watching a film. And in the film there is a backdrop of black and white people slow and quiet and almost inconspicuous. It is a mass of almost unnoticeable black and white faces and figures. Then in all the black and white, imagine being introduced to two brilliantly coloured cartoon characters, like wild cards in a boring game of Uno. Against the dark background, these two colorful characters have great big gestures, act when they speak, with words loud and distinguishably absurd, their limbs and faces are larger than life. Tons of color all around them. These are my parents. I see in a world of dark and strange plainness two separate people, so chalk-full of colors and sounds and ideas, heavy-handed beliefs swirling above in clouds of fantasy and their eyes always searching for that greater good and perfection; always looking for the best happiest and truest ways to live... WOW.
How many other parents have been this way?
How many children have been so correctly governed?
In Speaking of Our Parents:
no college professors are so quirky,
no medical diagnoses could come close to the behavioral cure,
not a day goes by that something outrageous doesn't happen as "Back to the Old Grind" plays in the backs of our minds.
When was the last time you met a mom with so much intense passion for caring?
How often have you met a dad who prides himself in the creation of words like Rafolowski with hiccupy-false laughter at his own jokes?
It's high time for this little declaration. And since I'm leaving P-ville in the morning, I figure I'd better say something. The kids in our family are pretty cool. But the parents, well they're just a lot older and secretly a whole lot cooler and we're all still struggling to catch up.
SO, thank you for one heckuva rocking summertime jamboreee!
Mom I can't belief you gave birth to us.
Dad, I can't believe you will be awake in less than 3 hours.
Thank you both you guys make me happy every day. I love you!

mikie this is nice. i truly love the words "hicuppy-false" because as i was reading i was able to reproduce that ridiculous laugh exactly due to this description. the words "correctly governed" are kinda weird though. but anyway i love that you shared this sentiment.
i can't believe you changed the words i thought were weird! you freaking cutie pie. don't ever take anything too seriously okay. i do miss you. can't wait to see you sunday in sf! how'd the audition go?
Mikie--thanks for what you say here. And I have 7 incredible kids (all adults, that is) All seven with magical individual personalities. Mikie you are super.
